2020-21 End of Year Poem (Covid Year Online)
What a crazy year this has been
None of this we could have ever foreseen
Never imagined even in my dreams
That I’d be ever teaching through a screen
My days were filled with uncertainty
I never knew if any of you would be
Online and waiting to learn from me
Or disengaged from this virtual reality
Yet, one by one you would all sign on
Smiling and laughing and singing a song
Rain or shine and even through a snowstorm
Each of you would just come right along
Though the day was to begin at eight
Most of you were rarely late
You'd be ready to join in the lesson that day
Waiting and eager to learn and to play
Each day seemed short and time just flew
After all, there was a lot of learning to do
I must confess and I must admit the truth
I never expected you to stay so tuned
When you were learning, you tried your best
You played on roblox when it was time to rest
You didn't want to spend time away from your friends
You switched to zoom when classes would end
You worked so hard, you wracked your brains
You wouldn't give up though it was a strain
You tried to think of things to write about
And asked for help when you had a doubt
At the year's end now it hardly seems
You struggled so much I thought you'd scream
Now you learn with nary a fight
And you can read so much more and easily write
I see a bright future for each one of you
You were brave and strong and showed wisdom too
You didn't let this year pass you by
Pandemic or not, you didn't let it slide
I thank you all for giving me a chance
I wish you so much luck in advance
As you move to the next stage of your lives
I hope you will all continue to thrive
